What Is An ‘Eco-Biz’?
STAR Automotive is proud to be certified by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as an Ecologically Friendly Business. To become Eco-Biz certified, a business must exceed the minimum legal requirements required by the DEQ and EPA. Presently, STAR Automotive is the only independent repair facility in Southern Oregon approved by the DEQ as an Eco-Biz and STAR is the first Eco-Biz in Grants Pass and Josephine County. Everyone at STAR is concerned about our local environment and each member of our team is committed to recycling every possible item we can.
At STAR, we care about our environment, earth, and we’re committed to recycling as many resources as possible.
We recycle oil, antifreeze, automotive refrigerants used in air conditioning systems, batteries, and more.
Our uniforms, floor mats, rags, towels, and so forth are cleaned by Aramark Industries using environmentally friendly cleansers.
We also are constantly looking for alternative solutions to the use of any hazardous materials in our workplace. For example, we no longer use petroleum solvent-based tanks to clean dirty parts; we use aqueous (water) based systems. This eliminates a hazardous waste stream and also protects our employees from possible health problems related to hazardous chemicals.
STAR Automotive uses 100% renewable energy sources.
So how do we do it?
- Electricity is purchased from Pacific Power; the Blue Sky program which utilizes 100% renewable energy sources to produce electricity.
- We heat our shop and service bays with used motor oil which we recover from automobiles and trucks which we service.
- We heat our offices with used motor oil.
- We recycle paper, cardboard, batteries, incandescent light bulbs, steel, aluminum and other metals, anti-freeze, and the list goes on. This is our effort to help make our environment just a little bit better.
We are continuously searching to improve our operating methods, efficiency, and cleanliness.
